Government Support: Up to 65% Funding
The Swedish Board of Agriculture (Jordbruksverket) now offers financial support covering up to 65% of the cost for investments in energy storage, solar integration, and standby power solutions. The aim is to strengthen rural infrastructure and reduce the vulnerability of food-producing enterprises. Eligible technologies include inverter systems, off-grid batteries, and hybrid power trailers—empowering farmers to future-proof operations with minimal upfront burden.

Protecting Agricultural Production from Power Outages
Modern agriculture is increasingly exposed to power disruptions—from extreme weather and grid instability to cyber threats and geopolitical tension. For farms that rely on continuous electricity for irrigation, ventilation, refrigeration, and livestock care, even short blackouts can cause major losses. Backup systems, such as battery storage combined with generators or solar panels, provide critical energy security. In poultry farms, for instance, ventilation failure during a blackout can lead to mass mortality within hours. Reliable backup power protects production, animal welfare, and business continuity.
Power Security as a Pillar of Civil Defense
The renewed focus on civil defense includes ensuring food security under crisis conditions. According to the Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency (MSB), decentralized energy solutions at farms are a key element of national resilience. Backup systems not only protect individual farms but also help sustain food supply chains during regional blackouts. By decentralizing energy resilience to the local level, agriculture becomes a frontline asset in Sweden’s total defense strategy.

Long-Term Savings and Energy Independence
Hybrid systems combining solar panels, battery storage, and standby generators not only provide security—they also cut long-term costs. With energy prices fluctuating and grid reliability under pressure, on-farm energy autonomy is becoming a strategic asset. Lithium battery systems offer over 6,000 charge cycles, and solar panels operate reliably for 25+ years, giving farmers predictable, low-maintenance energy at a time when cost stability is critical.
